Saying “I do.” 4 Evr.

Everyone loves when summer rolls around, I mean, look at all the fun things there are to do. You’ve got climbing, hiking, biking, fishing, long boarding, rafting, weddings.
Wait, weddings? Did that just conjure up images of dressing your best, going to a stuffy ceremony, mingling with the soap opera groups we like to call families and then getting silly drunk at the reception where someone almost always makes a fool of themselves and can never live the story down?
So OK, maybe you’re thinking yeah, weddings, sorta fun but not what I would mention for “fun” summer activities. Well let’s change that thought, let’s talk about mountain town weddings. These are a whole different animal than your normal city slicker wedding.
Take Scott and Jannine, for example, two badass cyclists who’ve been together longer than I’d known them. They’re perfect for each other. They get along great, they love the same things.
Now cut to my girlfriend and I shopping for wedding attire, “Yeah Katie! I love that pink prom dress with the puffy shoulders! What do you think of this acid washed jean jacket?” Turns out, Scott and Jannine decided to have a low-key ceremony and an ’80s-themed reception.
So, the wedding ceremony was in the morning at a beautiful spot overlooking the Tetons. Everyone came dressed nice but casual. Scott and Jannine were wed by their good friend Chris who acted as the pastor. When it was all over, the married couple rode away on a tandem bicycle decorated with beer cans and a “Just Married” sign.
It was good, people got sappy and all were happy to see the lovers joined in marriage.
The ’80s-themed reception, held at the couple’s house under a huge event tent, made the event, though. guests came dressed to the nines in everything ’80s. There were mullets, leg warmers, teased bangs, you name it.
The bride wore an 80s wedding dress – complete with puffy white sleeves and lacey forearms – that she found on the internet by some act of god, while the groom danced his 80s dance (see photo) in old school Nikes and bluish-purple parachute pants. Wow.
To every little kid’s (and grown-up’s) delight, the wedding cake was a dizzying array of over 150 cupcakes.
The DJ played ’80s tunes, and only 80’s tunes, all night long. Think “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” “Walk Like an Egyptian” and “Straight From the Heart.” People danced their pants off, and as you can imagine, some people created stories that will follow them for god knows how long.

If all weddings could have a Pour Some Sugar on Me theme and a Walk Like an Egyptian requirement, I may just consider getting married.
OMG… i freakin’ love it… love it. Is it too late to change my theme for my own impending wedding(oct.13)?? Oh well, i guess we’ll stick with our casual but classy affair on the Colorado River in Moab, which is just is perfect for us.
Sounds like their wedding absolutely fit who they are!! Congrats to the happy couple..
and please do post a pic of the bride in her poofy 80’s dress if you can dig one up!
You got it, elisabetho. You’re right- a wedding post is not complete without the bride.
Hey guys-
Any more pics? AWESOME! 80’s wedding. Especially love the silver/black parachute pants! I still fit into mine!
