Powder to the Peaceful

Michael Franti and Spearhead will play a free concert Saturday at Teton Village, beginning at 5 p.m. His is just one of many performances (see: New Orleans’ The Radiators), giveaways and other events (like mechanical bull riding) featured at the second Annual Jackson Hole Mountain Festival.
Following a weekend of skiing pow and jamming out, JH Underground, in partnership with the Art Association and Center for the Arts, will screen Franti’s documentary “I Know I’m Not Alone.” The show starts at 7 p.m. Monday at the Center.
Franti and a group of friends traveled to Baghdad in 2004 armed only with video cameras and his guitar. “I Know I’m Not Alone” is the story of Franti’s travels through the war zones of Iraq, Israel and Palestine, where through the power of music he connected with people on all sides.
Admission is $10, and proceeds will benefit the Middle East Children’s Alliance, a charity Franti supports that is working to make peace in the region.
This weekend in Jackson Hole, you can have it all: ski films, music concerts, record-breaking snowfall, manly machines and a heartfelt message about war, peace and music.
Liam Devenny is a street fiddle player in Jackson Hole. He also powder skis, often in his kilt.
