Sometimes you come across some really cool people doing cool things in the world. Sometimes you ride across them. When I was working in Malawi, Africa and cycling around Zomba I met Ted Webb the founder of Africycle (www.africycle.org) and Jonny Perrott (pic below), the Country director.
Africycle is a charity that provides access to a high-quality and affordable bicycle to empower Malawians to break the cycle of poverty and provide opportunities of economic and community development.

People donate their used and unwanted bicycles to Africycle in Oxbridge Cananda and they ship the bicycles to Malawi by boat in 40ft shipping containers to people that want them and need them. Many of the bicycles go to health care workers so they can serve sick and infirm people.
In our current culture of community action and community development Africycle is blazing the way in using the bicycle as a catalyst for sustainable and effective development in Malawian communities.
Bicycling is the most efficient human powered means of transportation.
Bicycling is GREEN transportation
And the of best part = riding bikes is fun.

Awesome program. Kona Bikes has been involved in a similar project where they donate AfricaBikes to home healthcare workers in Africa to help them treat HIV/AIDS patients. Since 2006 they have donated more than 2,500 bikes to over 10 countries. Check it: http://www.konabiketown.com and http://www.konaworld.com
