Bikes in Malawi

(Editor’s note: This is the latest in a series of posts by Cloudveil ambassador Andy Fleming, who took a leave from his job as a high school counselor in New York to work in Malawi, Africa, researching ways to reduce the HIV risk among young women.)
Bikes are mad fun, y’all.
Make good with what you got, ya.
All and everywhere, world.

If your dad's bike does not fit, ride through the middle.

If your son's bike does not fit, ride it high.

If you can't bike over water, take a boat taxi to the other side.

If you don't have a boat, have a courier carry it through a rushing river.

If you need to carry firewood, pack it on your frame.

If you can't pedal uphill, walk and push.

If you need to build your own, race it downhill.

If you have a big meeting, wear your sport coat in hot weather.

If you are a Malawian national team rider, race your bicycle.

If you have time to tour Malawi by bicycle, load it up and pedal (me).

Andy,
Your post reminds me of the website Copenhagen Cycle Chic only Malawi style!
Thanks
PS: Saw Andy and Kate riding on sunday. When are we going?
The build-your-own-bike shot is amazing, as are the rest. Thanks for sharing!
