Soft Snow and Hard-Knuckled Broomball in Aspen

High Alpine

Since my last update in November, things have picked up significantly in the Roaring Fork Valley. We received a good amount of snow (6-10″) here in the Aspen/Snowmass area just in time to freshen things up for the holiday weeks. Temperatures have been on the chilly side (normal by Jackson Hole standards …), keeping the snow fresh and light. We are seeing a good amount of international travelers in addition to the guests who return year after year.

Another treat for those in the area has been the addition of an outdoor skating rink down at the rodeo grounds. Local hockey teams have been using the new rink to practice a bit more, and there are rumors of a Town Council vs. Planning Commission Broomball Brawl (chose your side wisely!). Thanks to Tom Yocum and his crew for volunteering to make this dream a reality!

Events on the radar for the next month include Wintersköl, Aspen’s annual winter festival, from Jan. 8-11; Gay Ski Week from Jan. 16-23; and the X Games on Jan. 28-31.

These are a few shots from the High Alpine side of Snowmass.
