Big Wally Memorial

Posted on Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Last week some 500 people gathered at Teton Village to celebrate the life of Jackson Hole ski patroller Mark “Big Wally” Wolling, who was buried in an avalanche while on duty Jan. 6.

Brad Boner, photographer for the Jackson Hole News&Guide, compiled this slide show of images from the memorial. The video is set to the 10th Mountain Division hymn “Two Boards Upon Cold Powder Snow,” sung by the Jackson Hole patrol.

Wolling’s death shook the community, but the celebration of his life was a fitting tribute to a man who, as his mother, Millie, said, “embodied the spirit of Jackson Hole.”
